New Horizons for Single Parents and Displaced Homemakers

New Horizons helps single parents and displaced homemakers enrolled in vocational programs. It provides book grants; career, academic and personal counseling; and workshops that meet the special needs of single parents. For more information, call New Horizons at 619-388-4540 or 388-3424.

The New Horizons program publishes a Study Guide to help program participants balance the additional pressures and time requirements of school on top of work and family obligations. The guide covers study skills, motivation, memory, time management, note taking, reading, test taking and basic English grammar and math. The guide is filled with valuable hints from authors, teachers, counselors and other persons knowledgeable about these topics. There are also practical tips from successful single-parent students.

New Horizons also periodically publishes a brochure listing community resources for single parents, and a booklet describing these resources for social service agencies that refer single parents/displaced homemakers.

For more information about these publications or other services available, call 619-388-4540 or 388-3424.
